and Publication of Manuscripts The
International Journal of Rural Psychology is a forum for the publication
of peer reviewed and high quality original articles empirical, theoretical,
review, and historical articles as well as letters to the editor, book
reviews and editorials. The journal publishes work that is of
direct professional relevance to psychologists of general relevance
within the rural psychology field.

of the Journal |

Refereed
Articles Contributions
are state of the art reviews of professional and applied areas and reviews
and essays on matters of general relevance to psychologists in the rural
setting. They are between 4,000 and 6,000 words. Tables, figures and references
and not included in the word count. |

Refereed Reports
Contributions are research reports which are
of high quality and which have a demonstrated professional focus and/or
application about practice in the field. The maximum length of these is
4000-6000 words. Tables, diagrams and references are not included in this
word count. |

Research Notes
Contributions of short reports which are high quality and which have demonstrated
professional focus and/or application about practice in the field. The
maximum length is 2000 words and will be peer reviewed. |

Comments and Debates
This section will publish commentaries on matters arising from anything
published in the journal. The maximum length of contribution is 2000 words
including all tables and references. |

Practice Forum
The journal also offers a special 'Practice
Forum'. This section publishes individual manuscripts and collections
of manuscripts which address matters of general, professional and public
relevance, techniques and approaches in psychological practice, professional
development issues, and professional and public policy issues. Special
topic collection are normally published in the section. New writers and
students are encouraged to submit articles. This section will not be peer
reviewed. |

Book Reviews
The journal publishes book reviews of up to
1,000 words. Books reviewed relate directly to the major areas of rural
psychological practice. |

General professional work in the rural setting;
Clinical work in the rural setting; Rural counselling; Rural psychology
education; Rural clinical psychology; Indigenous issues; Rural work psychology;
Rural health psychology; Rural forensic psychology and Rural community
psychology. |

Requirements
Font to be used "Times New Roman - Size
12" Bold, Italics and Underline
are accepted. Document must
be in black text only 2 cm page
margins are required Double
line spacing is required Pages
numbered in the top right hand corner Information
for Authors Contributions
should follow the general style described in the Publication Manual
of the American Psychological Association (4th Edition, 1995)
except the spelling should conform to The Macquarie Dictionary
(2nd Edition). For matters of style not covered in these
two publications the Style Manual for Authors, Editors and
Printers (5th Edition, Australian Government Publishing Service)
should be consulted. The attention of authors is especially
drawn to the changes in the fourth edition. (pp.xxviii-xxx) |
Title Page Each
contribution must contain a title page, which has the following
information: Title of the manuscript
Name(s) of the author(s)
Name(s) of affiliation(s) A
contact name, address and email for correspondence, proofs and
reprints The word length of
the manuscript The section of
the journal for which it is being submitted The
professional area of practice to which the article is primarily
relevant |
Abstracts An
informative summary of no more than 150 words is required with
each article. |
Abbreviations
Should be kept to a minimum. Full stops
are omitted for any abbreviations for example cm, kg. |
Metric Units
Are used according to the International System of Units (SI),
with no full stops when abbreviated. |
Statistics
Should be seen as an aid to interpretation and an end to themselves.
Authors are encouraged to state their rejection rate once (e.g.,
p = .05) and then simply state whether a given statistic
is significant or not, by that comparison. |

Figures Tables and Images
Images depicting aspects of the contribution are strongly encouraged.
Figures, Tables and Images should be included
in their intended place within the document along with appropriate
captions. Please attach original jpeg/gif files for figures and
images .

References Gender
neutral or gender inclusive (his/hers) terms should be used.
Author/Date Harvard referencing system
is used. Reference list at the
end of the article must be included in alphabetical order and
begin on a new page. All references cited in the text must
appear in the reference list. |
Blind or Masked Reviews
The journal will accept submissions in blind review format.
Each copy of a manuscript should include a separate title page
with authors name(s) and affiliation(s), and these should not
appear anywhere else in the manuscript. Furthermore, author identification
notes should be typed on the title page. Authors should
make every effort to see that the manuscript itself contains no
clues to their identities. |
Manuscripts
Must be the original work of the author(s)
and will be received on the understanding they have not been published
or submitted elsewhere. Authors should keep a copy of the manuscript
to guard against loss. |
Reprints
The International Journal of Rural Psychology allows authors to
purchase up to 100 reprints of their journal articles. Reprints
must be ordered on the page that accompanies the first page proofs. |

Manual Submission
Manuscripts should be submitted in
triplicate and comply with the above formatting requirements
The article should also be submitted
on a 3.5 floppy IBM format disk in “WORD 6 or Rich Text” format.
It should be the only file on the disk
and the article title, and author(s) name should be clearly indicated
on the disk label. ALL DISKS
MUST BE VIRUS SCANNED BEFORE BEING SENT DISKS FOUND WITH A VIRUS
WILL NOT BE OPENED.

APA and APS journals |

Reviewing Process
All major articles and reports will
be peer reviewed by experts across the field. All
other articles and submissions will be editorially reviewed. |
Copyright
It is the policy of the International Journal of Rural Psychology to
own the copyright to its publications, and to the contributions contained
therein in order to protect the interests of the International Journal
of Rural Psychology and its authors, and at the same time to facilitate
the appropriate reuse of this material by others.
Therefore upon acceptance of their manuscript for publication by the
International Journal of Rural Psychology, authors will be sent a copyright
transfer form to fill out and return to the editor. Publication of the
manuscript will be contingent upon receipt of the completed copyright
transfer form.
It is the International Journal of Rural Psychology position that the
abstracts that are published with its journals articles are indicative
of and not a substitute for, the work as a whole; therefore, access
services are allowed free use of these abstracts without securing the
permission of the International Journal of Rural Psychology.
